Prepare the source image

Select width by detail and cost
Try several candidate widths. Around 32 blocks works for simple icons, 48 to 64 suits many portraits and murals, and 128 is appropriate for detailed art or a single map-art footprint. The converter preserves aspect ratio, so read the calculated height as well as width. A tall portrait may need much more wall height than expected.
Multiply width by height to estimate the maximum number of positions. A 64 by 48 output has 3,072 cells, while a 128 by 96 version has 12,288. Transparent cells may remain empty, but the area still determines the wall and scaffolding required. Choose the smallest preview that keeps the subject recognizable.
Choose blocks for the kind of build
Concrete produces bright, clean wall art. Wool has a softer texture and can be renewable in survival. Terracotta adds muted shades for natural images and portraits. A full palette can improve color coverage, but unusual blocks may be rare, directional, patterned, affected by gravity, or inconsistent with the surrounding surface. Disable any material you cannot place in the quantity shown.
Map art is different from a wall mural. Select a dedicated map-color mode so the plan represents what a filled map records, and use the exact footprint required by the map tile. A normal block-color conversion may look correct from above but produce different colors on the map item.
Review and clean the converted grid
Inspect the preview from two distances. High zoom exposes isolated color specks, broken diagonal lines, and letters with closed gaps. Normal size reveals whether the silhouette, face, or logo remains recognizable. If the output is muddy, reduce near-duplicate colors; if important features vanished, increase resolution or edit the source.
Automatic color matching is a useful draft, not a requirement to accept every cell. Replacing one isolated block with a neighboring color can improve an edge or simplify materials. Make all corrections before exporting, then save the final grid and list together so builders do not follow an older version.
Use the block list to plan survival materials
Convert each material total into stacks of 64 and keep the remainder. Identify the largest background colors and any rare block before starting. If a selected material is impractical, disable or replace it in the palette and regenerate. Untracked substitutions during building can weaken contrast and make the saved plan inaccurate.
Measure the build site using the exact output dimensions, leave access space, and decide the viewing direction. Bring spare common colors and temporary markers that are not part of the artwork. For multi-session projects, label storage by color and save a screenshot of the current grid section so work resumes without guessing.
Export for manual building or compatible tools
A PNG with grid lines is the universal reference for row-by-row building in Java or Bedrock Edition. A CSV list helps with gathering and storage.
